00:19
welcome to focus today I’m your host
00:21
Perry at consenting course if you didn’t
00:23
catch it yesterday we want to make
00:25
available to you Franklin Graham’s
00:27
message from Central Park
00:29
he is gave an Easter message yesterday
00:33
alongside with michael w smith doing the
00:36
music but if you can imagine he’s out in
00:38
Central Park he’s in front of the tent
00:42
hospitals that Samaritan’s Purse has
00:44
developed and put there to help fight
00:46
the corona virus and of course he’s he
00:49
heads up Samaritan’s Purse but speaking
00:52
to a park with nobody in it but his
00:54
message was simple and powerful and we
00:57
wanted to bring it to you so here’s
00:59
Franklin Graham
01:00
yesterday’s Easter message from Central
01:01
Park in New York this is Easter and of
01:04
course the church around the world on
01:06
Easter always has a tradition of
01:08
greeting one another on Easter morning
01:10
by saying he has risen and the reply to
01:14
that is he has risen indeed and the Lord
01:17
Jesus Christ is risen he’s not dead he’s
01:20
alive and we’re here to celebrate Easter
01:22
this Sunday 2020 now behind me is
01:26
Samaritans first field hospital we have
01:29
patients in this hospital and some are
01:32
struggling for every breath that they
01:34
take this is a very dangerous very
01:37
dangerous virus and we felt it was
01:39
appropriate that come to you today from
01:42
Central Park on Easter morning 29 years
01:45
ago Michael my father just right over
01:47
here preached here in Central Park and I
01:51
remember that so well it’s the city was
01:54
quiet that day is like so many people
01:58
had come to hear him preach and it was
02:02
just there was kind of a quietness over
02:03
the city and here we are on Easter and
02:06
once again we’re in this city and it’s
02:10
quiet and this time is for certainly a
02:12
different reason and it’s the
02:15
coronavirus that has gripped not only
02:18
our nation but the world who would have
02:21
imagined that just a few weeks ago that
02:24
the world would be shut down
02:25
be difficult to travel country’s borders
02:28
are closed restaurants are closed
02:30
theatres are closed
02:32
our salons are closed we’re in the
02:34
middle of a storm and none of us
02:37
anticipated this nobody expected this
02:40
storm but it is gripped the entire world
02:43
and there are people that have lost
02:45
absolutely all hope and I want to look
02:49
at the Bible today at a few instances
02:52
where people had no hope and what
02:55
happened to them Jesus was on his way
02:58
through Jericho when he was on that way
03:02
out of the city there was a man sitting
03:05
beside the road a blind man by the name
03:06
of Bartimaeus and barnum Eze had heard
03:09
about Jesus he had heard that there was
03:11
a stranger from Galilee that he had
03:13
raised the dead he had made the lame to
03:15
walk it given sight to the blind the
03:17
Deaf could hear it heard these things
03:19
these rumors these stories and so he
03:22
wasn’t sure that Jesus was coming
03:25
through the city and there was a
03:27
commotion because there’s always large
03:29
crowds of people that followed our Lord
03:30
and Jesus was coming through the city
03:33
and Bartimaeus is sitting on the side of
03:36
the road he’s blind he’s a beggar
03:37
there’s no hope for a beggar there’s no
03:40
schools that he could go to there were
03:41
no no Institute’s for the blind
03:44
no Braille for the blind all he could do
03:48
was beg on the side of the road so he
03:49
goes sitting there begging and and he
03:52
hears this commotion he asked somebody
03:53
what’s happening what’s going on he says
03:56
Jesus he’s passing by and bartemaeus at
04:00
the top of his voice begins to yell
04:02
about Jesus thou son of David have mercy
04:06
on me he screams again Jesus thou son of
04:12
David have mercy on me now there are a
04:15
lot of people maybe thousands of people
04:19
following Jesus but there was one voice
04:22
that called out in faith one bartemaeus
04:26
Jesus thou son of David have mercy on me
04:31
and Jesus stops and he looks to
04:36
bartimaeus and he tells someone to go
04:39
call it and bring him here and
04:42
Bartimaeus comes to Jesus
04:45
remember Bartimaeus has no hope he
04:48
expected to die in his blindness no one
04:52
get healing except one and that was
04:56
Jesus and Bartimaeus believed that Jesus
04:59
could do it it wasn’t could he do it
05:02
it’s just wood Jesus stopped long enough
05:05
to speak to me a poor dirty beggar would
05:09
he really stop and Jesus stops and calls
05:13
him and people said cheer up he’s
05:15
calling you Bartimaeus and Bartimaeus
05:18
comes to the Lord and ask him a question
05:21
what do you want me to do for your Lord
05:24
that I might receive my sight
05:26
and immediately Bartimaeus could see you
05:32
see the only hope for Bartimaeus was
05:34
Jesus the only hope for this world where
05:36
we live today is the Lord Jesus Christ
05:38
there is no hope for this world today
05:42
our country is in trouble
05:44
our world is in trouble and we’re in
05:47
this storm and many of us have been
05:50
through storms maybe you’ve had a
05:51
marriage crisis of storm maybe they have
05:55
a crisis is school a storm maybe you’ve
05:59
had financial problems a storm in your
06:01
life you weren’t sure when you will pay
06:02
the next bill you know I sure how you
06:05
gonna make the ends meet
06:06
we’ve all had storms but none of us has
06:10
seen a storm like this that we’re in
06:12
today and of course Jesus Christ can
06:17
change the direction of your life if
06:18
you’re willing to let him who’s
06:20
celebrating Easter we celebrate the day
06:23
that Jesus Christ came up out of the
06:25
grave he’s alive he’s not dead he’s
06:28
alive and he’ll come into each and every
06:30
heart Jesus in Matthew chapter 8 was
06:34
coming down the mountain after preaching
06:36
all day he was tired he was weary and a
06:40
leper came to him a leper very much like
06:46
maybe this coronavirus or Ebola there
06:51
was no hope for a leper
06:53
they were very contagious the social
06:55
distancing for a leper was as far
06:58
Jukka Thor Rock so if you saw a leper
06:59
you threw rocks at him and the leper
07:02
would stay back out of the distance of a
07:04
rock being thrown and here comes a leper
07:07
and he approaches Jesus and I’m sure the
07:10
crowd started backing up but Jesus
07:12
didn’t back up he stood his ground and
07:14
the leper comes and Jesus what do you
07:17
want me to do that I may be cleansed
07:19
that may be healed and jesus healed him
07:23
right there in front of everybody and he
07:26
reaches out what I love about the
07:27
scripture he reaches out and he touches
07:29
the leper this men that had no hope
07:32
all of a sudden received a touch from
07:35
the Lord Jesus Christ these doctors and
07:37
nurses behind me right now they’re
07:40
touching these patients holding their
07:43
hands praying for them not running from
07:47
them but running to them to comfort them
07:49
to help save their life Jesus went on
07:53
from there to Peter’s house it’s getting
07:56
dark and it began ministering to the
07:59
people they brought all the sick all
08:01
bowls that were needed help they brought
08:04
him in Jesus and the Bible said jesus
08:05
healed him but then he told his
08:07
disciples to get the boat ready because
08:10
they wanted to go to the other side of
08:11
the Sea of Galilee you want to get away
08:13
from the crowds he wanted some quiet to
08:15
where he could rest and so he gets into
08:18
the boat the disciples get in the boat
08:20
with him and the Lord Jesus goes to
08:22
sleep and the Bible says that as they
08:25
were out there on the sea as suddenly a
08:28
storm came a violent storm now these are
08:31
fishermen they’ve been on that sea many
08:34
times they’ve been as storms they knew
08:35
how to handle storms but this was such a
08:38
fierce storm the waves were breaking
08:41
over the boat swamping the boat and the
08:45
disciples cried out to Jesus and they
08:47
went and woke him up and they said Jesus
08:50
save us save us we’re about to drown and
08:55
Jesus stood up and he said o you of
08:58
little faith
09:01
I’m sure he had a big smile on his face
09:03
and he rebuked the wind and he rebuked
09:06
the wave said it became instantly calm
09:09
not just a little calm or gradually
09:12
became calm instantly it stopped right
09:14
then and that’s scared him and they
09:17
marvel what kind of man is this that
09:19
even the wind and the waves listen to
09:22
his voice today what kind of man he is
09:25
the Lord Jesus Christ he’s the son of
09:27
God who came to this earth for one
09:30
purpose a rescue mission
09:32
we talked about hope these sailors these
09:35
disciples had no hope they were about to
09:38
drown no hope bartimaeus no hope
09:41
gonna be blind the leper no hope jesus
09:46
knows how to take those hopeless
09:47
situations and turn him around and he
09:50
can do that for your life he can turn
09:52
the hopeless situation of your life
09:55
180 degrees even turned around would
09:58
you’ve got to be willing to trust him
10:00
Jesus is God’s Son who came to this
10:03
earth for purpose you see the Bible says
10:06
all of us have sinned when the first man
10:08
the first woman Adam and Eve when they
10:10
came into this world God created a
10:13
perfect world gave them a perfect
10:15
environment there was no disease there
10:17
was no cancer there was no Kovan 19
10:19
there was an Ebola there was a perfect
10:23
world and what they did is they
10:25
disobeyed God they rebelled against him
10:27
and as a result of that rebellion this
10:31
perfect world now became flawed and sin
10:34
came of the world in sin infected the
10:36
entire human race and the Bible says
10:39
that all of us have sinned and we’ve all
10:41
come short of God’s and standard his
10:42
glory and the Bible goes on to tell us
10:44
that the penalty the penalty for sin is
10:46
death so what hope do we have we’re
10:50
sinners were guilty God God had a plan
10:53
he sent His Son Jesus Christ out of
10:56
heaven to this earth on a rescue mission
10:58
to save us Jesus Christ came to save
11:01
sinners he didn’t come into this world
11:03
to condemn he came to save he came by
11:06
offering his life as a sacrifice for sin
11:08
he became a sacrifice to God for the
11:11
sins of mankind
11:12
and Jesus Christ took our sins your sins
11:14
my sins he went to the cross and on the
11:17
cross He shed his blood for the sins of
11:19
mankind all of us are guilty we’ve all
11:24
come short of God’s standards the
11:26
penalty of sin is death but Jesus took
11:29
the death he took the shame of the cross
11:32
he took the sins past present future to
11:35
the cross and he died in our place on
11:37
the cross so on Easter morning we
11:40
celebrate not a a a tomb with a body and
11:44
if we celebrated an empty tomb because
11:47
when Jesus Christ hung on that cross he
11:48
took our sins and He shed his blood for
11:51
our sins he was buried for our sins and
11:53
on the third day God raised his son to
11:55
life Jesus Christ is not dead he’s alive
11:57
and he’ll come into each and every heart
12:00
that was willing to trust him by faith
12:02
by grace we’re safe through faith this
12:05
not of works if you could work for your
12:07
salvation you would brag about it and
12:08
Jesus said I’m the way the truth and the
12:11
life no man comes to the Father but by
12:13
me and he could say that because there’s
12:16
no other person in all of history to
12:17
take the sins of mankind no other person
12:20
no other religion you can search the
12:23
world over you’ll never find anyone who
12:25
claims to have taken the sins of the
12:26
world
12:27
except Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ
12:30
took your sins and he died and shed his
12:32
blood on that cross for you and me and
12:34
while he was hanging on the cross as
12:37
Michael shared just a minute ago God
12:40
turned his back on his son God could not
12:43
look at that filth he couldn’t look at
12:44
the sin that Jesus had become and he
12:46
turned his back and in that moment the
12:49
father and son were just a brief moment
12:51
were separated and Jesus took our sins
12:54
to the grave but on the third day God
12:57
said that is enough and well the third
13:00
day he raised his son to life jesus is
13:02
alive and we celebrate this Easter a
13:05
risen Savior he’s alive and he’s here
13:08
today and he’ll come into your heart if
13:11
you’re willing to trust him you say but
13:13
Franklin what do I have to do first you
13:15
have to be willing to repent repent is
13:17
to to turn from our sins to be willing
13:20
to be sorry enough to turn say God I’m
13:24
sorry and
13:25
wouldn’t eternal I live in those sins
13:28
anymore you’ve got to be willing to
13:31
repent and then by faith believe on the
13:33
name of the Lord Jesus Christ if you’re
13:35
willing to simply believe just say God I
13:39
don’t understand it all but I believe
13:44
Jesus died for me
13:45
and I believe that you raised him to
13:47
life and I want him to come into my
13:48
heart God will answer that prayer he
13:53
will forgive you he’ll cleanse you you
13:55
can have a new life and a new beginning
13:56
and that storm that you’re that you’re
13:59
going through God doesn’t give us a pass
14:02
okay if you come to Christ you don’t get
14:04
some kind of pass or you don’t have to
14:06
go through storms no we’ll still have
14:08
storms in life we still have viruses or
14:11
whatever else come down our paths in
14:13
life but he promises to be with us he’ll
14:16
guide us he’ll direct us he’ll never
14:18
leave us he’ll never forsake us if you
14:20
put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ
14:23
well there you go powerful and by the
14:25
way you can go on the Internet probably
14:28
just Google Franklin Graham if you want
14:30
to pick up that message and share it
14:32
with others
14:33
I stick around coming up next our good
14:35
friend James Herson will be with us we
14:37
have a lot to talk to him about as well
